Chief/Director Endoscopic and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS) Clinic

Philosophy

The philosophy of immediate mobilization and the quick recovery of the patients after endoscopic and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, because of the minimal surgical incisions and the minimal tissue destruction during spine surgery was what intrigued me scientifically and it remains my driving force for my continuous expertise in the field of endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques in spine surgery in the U.S The newest endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques promise more effective and superior painless treatment for spinal cure injuries (MISS).

Medical Success Story: INNOVATIVE ENDOSCOPIC & MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGICAL TECHNIQUES (MISS) PROVIDE SOLUTIONS FOR SPINAL COLUMN CONDITIONS

The Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Spine, treats the whole spectrum of spinal conditions with modern, advanced techniques. They are implemented with small incisions of the skin (~1cm) and the use of micro-endoscopic techniques under visual magnification. This prevents bleeding and minimizes the destruction of adjoining tissues, achieving a great surgical result.

It includes techniques such as:

Removal of the disc hernia as well as annuloplasty -that means cauterization with radio frequency or laser fibers of the disc annulus, in order to strengthen it or reduce its size- of the fibrous ring, in order to minimise post-operative pain and complications.

  • Rhizotomy, which treats lower back pain which is caused by arthritis or inflammation of the posterior joints of the spine, cauterizing with radio frequencies or laser fibers the medial branch of the sensory nerves, that are responsible for the perception of the low back pain.Relieving the pressure with fenestration or hemilaminectomy of the spine in cases such as the central stenosis of the spine.
  • Foraminoplasty that is the decompression of the nervous structure in a lateral-foraminal stenosis.
  • Endoscopic assisted spinal fusion
  • The wedge vertebral fracture of the spine, which are caused by some injury or an automatic mechanism due to strain of the spinal column and some related pathology, such as osteoporosis or other conditions, are treated by the kyphoplasty method. Kyphoplasty is a method of internal reduction and stabilisation of the fractures percutaneously. Also when it has to be done the stabilisation/fusion of the spine, in cases that is necessary, we use minimally invasive techniques through percutaneous approaches for pedicle screws and intervertebral cages (Tlif, Xlif, Plif, Axialif ecc.) or artificial discs where is necessary to preserve motion. Many of the above procedures can be performed under local anaesthesia, fluoroscopy with C-arm, O-arm navigation or Robotic assistance. Thus, the patient usually leaves the hospital the same day, a few hours after the surgery, returning to his usual activities as soon as possible.
