Bariatric Surgery
My name is Georgia Doulami. I graduated from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2009, having discovered early on my passion for General Surgery. In 2012, I began my specialization in General Surgery at the 1st Department of Surgery, University of Athens, at Hippocration General Hospital. There, I received extensive training in a wide range of surgical techniques and subspecialties, with a particular focus on minimally invasive surgery. I participated in hundreds of procedures as an assistant and, in many cases, as the primary surgeon. I also attended numerous educational programs, conferences, and seminars in Greece and abroad, initially as a trainee and later as a speaker and instructor. In 2020, I was awarded the title of Specialist in General Surgery.
In 2017, I completed my PhD at the Medical School of Athens with the highest distinction. My doctoral research focused on gastroesophageal reflux disease and the surgical treatment of obesity—combining my two main areas of interest. This research was recognized internationally and was presented at prominent medical journals and global conferences.
My passion for bariatric and metabolic surgery led me to join the 2nd Surgical Department of Iaso General Clinic – Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Unit, where I have been working since 2021 as a consultant surgeon. In addition to performing a wide range of bariatric and metabolic procedures, I actively contributed to the Unit’s International Certification as a Center of Excellence by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) in 2023. Since 2022, I have been an active member of the Hellenic Society for the Surgery of Obesity.
In 2024, I opened my private practice in Agia Paraskevi, the neighborhood where I grew up, with the goal of providing high-quality surgical care to the local community. I am committed to patient respect, clear communication, and individualized treatment, which I believe are key to succeeding in my new professional chapter.
Throughout my career in healthcare, I have placed communication, support, respect, and personalization at the heart of my medical practice. I believe there is nothing more important than truly listening to my patients, giving them the time they need to express their concerns, and ensuring a complete and compassionate approach to their care. Modern medicine demands a holistic mindset, where treatment is tailored to the unique needs of each individual—avoiding one-size-fits-all solutions.
In my surgical practice, I favor minimally invasive techniques (laparoscopy) combined with enhanced recovery protocols (fast-track protocols), offering my patients the best chance for a quick return to their everyday lives. Pain relief and elimination are among my top priorities, as they are essential pillars of successful treatment and comprehensive patient care.
