Dr. Zoi Vrakopoulou-Vrettakou is an experienced general surgeon specializing in obesity surgery, the management of metabolic diseases, and minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and endoscopic). With a career spanning top healthcare institutions across Europe, Asia, and Africa, she is distinguished for her scientific excellence and dedication to providing personalized medical care.
She graduated from the Medical School – Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2008. She began her specialization in General Surgery at Mallersdorf – Pfaffenberg hospital (Germany) in collaboration with the University Hospital of Regensburg, and in 2011, she continued her training at the University Clinic Giessen – Marburg (Germany).

In 2015, she became the head resident at the 1st Propedeutic Surgical Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens “Hippokrateio,” and in 2017, she obtained her specialty certification in General Surgery. In 2018, she completed her doctoral thesis (PhD) with “Excellent” at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, on the topic of intestinal anastomosis healing.

Her scientific pursuit led her to London (UK), where she specialized in upper gastrointestinal endoscopic surgery at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. In 2020, she received a training scholarship at Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong. Simultaneously, from 2021 to 2023, she served as an Academic Fellow at the 5th University Surgical Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Dr. Vrakopoulou holds the European Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery (F.E.B.S./MIS) and is an active member of international scientific societies, such as the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). She has published a significant number of research papers and serves as a reviewer for international scientific journals.

Her clinical experience includes work in hospitals in Germany, South Africa, and Greece, and she has participated in humanitarian missions with the DEMIRA organization in Pakistan. Currently, she practices as a General Surgeon at the Athens Medical Center and maintains private clinics in Athens (Marousi & Ampelokipi) and Corinth.
